Following the custom for such occasions, Inigo Jones, Surveyor of the Works*, erected temporary seating in the Hall of Whitehall Palace* for the King and Queen and courtiers.

For the King and Queen he erected a dais and for the courtiers, bleacher-like risers called degrees.
