The stairs down from the 2nd Level Lobby to the lower boxes are necessitated by the rake (slope) of the seating area. On the main floor, patrons had to ascend a short flight of steps to reach boxes at the rear of the theatre, while the boxes closest to the stage were on the same level as the lobby itself.

On the second level, boxes at the rear of the theatre were at lobby level, while those closest to the stage were several feet lower, necessitating a short stairway down. The main 2nd Level Lobby, stairs and passageway are seen in light green in the drawing below.
