He studied at Carnegie Institute of Technology (BFA, MFA in Directing) and at The Ohio State University (PhD in Theatre History).
Wolcott has worked as a theatre manager, stage manager, actor and director. He has a special interest in the history of theatre technology. His current research focuses on the use of computers in the arts, with a special interest in hypertext and the World Wide Web as a learning and research environment.
He is a member of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology and the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education. A frequent speaker on the arts and computing in higher education, Wolcott has published in professional journals which include Theatre Survey, Theatre Research, Theatre Design and Technology, Theatre Journal, Academic Computing and the International Journal of Educational Technology.
More than anything else, Wolcott likes to fly-fish. For many years he was a partner in Flyfisher Associates, a company which taught classes in fly fishing and fly tying to over 150 people each year.
When not at the University he can usually be found someplace wet, in one of the many lakes and streams of Washington, Idaho, Montana or Canada.
